As a UP student who commutes through katipunan, seldom does a commuter experience little to no traffic along C5, especially in the morning. This traffic is unavoidable since the main cause of traffic are the intersections, wherein the flow of traffic needs to be disrupted to give way for a different flow of direction, cars are to stop and causes bottlenecks, hence.. traffic. So… what to do when stuck in traffic? Since traffic is unavoidable there are a lot ways to entertain oneself, but here are the few things I do when I get stuck in traffic.
This list is from my own personal experience and practice, any similarities are completely coincidental. When in traffic you can actually do a lot of things but what I like to do
- Contemplate – since I have nowhere to go and time to spare, I usually think about life like; what am I doing in life, what is my purpose, how can I be a positive influence to others, why is a fly so irritating, is a spider web actually poo? Sometimes, getting stuck traffic makes you realize a lot of things, it provides you time to reflect and evaluate portions of life.
- Read – to read is one of best past times, whether its from the internet or a book. Reading keeps you entertain and informed, it also increases you vocabulary list. But what is most important that reading stimulates your mind. I personally believe that reading before coming to class stimulates you to be more focused.
- Review – if you have a quiz or an exam coming. To review would be the best thing to do to maximize time, so that you can have your rest when you reach your destination.
- Play – phones are quite useful now a days, when you get bored you just pop up your phone and play any app that can keep you occupied. But personally, I like to play little mind games when stuck in traffic, so that it keeps me attentive and alert.
- Daydream – since traffic is due to the volume of cars, I usually look for an attractive car and would day dream about it, make it as a motivation for the day, hoping that one day, you too will have a similar car and…… add to the cause of traffic.
When getting struck, it inevitable to get enraged, especially if you need to be somewhere as soon as possible. However, traffic is part of our society, there will always be traffic wherever you go. Traffic will always be present, but don’t let traffic ruin your day otherwise you just got mad for nothing. It is true, traffic is no joke and waste so much time. To this day, traffic is still one of the topics that bothers me and I hope traffic can be addressed as soon as possible. Who wants to invest so much of their time in traffic?
